Rizhao Coast Forest Park, Shandong, China

Surf's up

This is well worth a visit. This national park has a large forested area with trees dating from the 1950s. You can rent bikes and toodle around the many paths and roads in the park. The best stretch of beach is about 400-500 metres north from the amusement area. You'll be almost alone, a rarity in China. There were a small number of people camping on the beach in small tents. It looked like tents were available to rent too. The waves were really impressive. I'm not a surfer, but they looked very surfable to me. Might not be the safest swimming beach. Possibly a strong undertow, but not 100% sure.

    Seasonal attraction
I found this park to be average. Like the previous reviewer said its essentially just a couple of dirt roads in a square. The centre of the park has a playground for children. The beach has carnival attractions similar to the ones you find at Rizhao beach during summer. If you are interesting in hiking go to Wulian mountain.

    Just so-so
Went here during national holiday weekend - so called peak season. The park itself is a couple of dirt roads in pretty square layout. Made the mistake of taking forest too literal and went for a hike. Key problem - except for the dirt roads there's literally no way to be taken. Disappointed by the forest. The beach itself is quite nice - if you avoid the amusement park area. Due to active fishing a bit dirty though. Overall definitely overprice at 60 RMB - especially as the usual 10 for parking come on top.
