The Bell Tower Square marks the geographical center of the ancient capital. From this important landmark extend East, South, West and North Streets, connecting the Tower to the East, South, West and North Gates of the City Wall of the Ming Dynasty.

    The Centre of Xi'an and Under Restoration
    We visited in July 2020 and were hoping to see the landmark but it is under restoration. From what I have been reading they ring the bells at sunrise and there is a bell there that was made in 711! This is in the centre of the ancient city walls and a large traffic circle. You wouldn't have to go far out of your way to see it.

    Admire at night
    Though the Bell Tower makes for a great 45 tour, it's exceptional to view from the exterior at night. I recommend visiting the bell tower and drum tower in the late afternoon, using the combo ticket, exploring the local area and returning to view the lights before hitting up the night market.
