Beautiful temple!

The temple grounds area is pretty typical except for one big slab that has been preserved. I was told that it is very old. There's a big dong being at 99 times for the most best luck ever. Inside the main temple is an amazing display of art and craft work. It's really beautiful and totally worth the visit.

    Another great Buddhist temple
About 30 miles SE of Xian, Shuilu was built around 600 AD and is best know for the more than 3000 carved clay figures from the Ming Dynasty. Each small figures is vividly colored and apparently individualized. Didn't see any foreign tourists there during our visit. In some ways, the figures remind some of Mogao caves, but obviously not on as grand a scale as any of the four main grottoes I've seen. On the other hand, less time required to digest, and near a large city.

    Off the beaten path
Wonderfully preserved site for Buddhist painted clay sculptures from the Sui Dynasty 518-619 AD through Late Zhou Dynasty 960 AD. Not a well known site therefore not crowded, which is great! On the downside, no signage or descriptions available. Not allowed to take photos either.
