A family’s best adventure in Seldovia

Cindy is so adaptable and intuitively guides her guests to their best experience. My daughter had developed a fear of the large tides found along Seldovia’s coastline and Cindy found a way to put her at ease while hiking and tide pooling—- she taught her to read and carry a tide book. A walk with Cindy allows you to once again view the world as a child... with awe and wonder. Thanks for all of the amazing hikes.

A day in the rainforest of Seldovia
Seldovia, Alaska, is reachable only by boat or air. Either way it’s worth the effort. Cindy Mom gave us and four others a lovely tour of the town, starting with a boat ride on the M/V Beowulf (Red Mountain Marine). Cindy is knowledgeable of the land and sea, and shares that knowledge freely. We toured the studio of a local artist (Valisa May Higman), walked about town, and visited other interesting spots. It was a pleasure to spend the day with her. We had a wonderful time and would look forward to an opportunity to do it again.

    lucky us!
We decided to add the Seldovia tour to our Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival itinerary.... really glad we did. The boat ride over on the Beowulf was great fun and our bird guide when we arrived was Cindy Mom -- she gave us a great tour of a local artist studio - Valisa Higman's incredible beach house. She was the featured artist for the shorebird festival, and it was great to see the process she uses to create amazing images. That tour, in and of itself, was worth the trip over -- Valisa is an AMAZING artist! Of course we were there for birds and our first stop was to check out the chestnut backed chickadees -- lovely birds indeed. Cindy knows the local habitat and where to find the birds -- she is great at hearing them (I am totally unable to hear most) and then finding them in the brush. She also had scouted out some nests for us to check out. All in all an excellent day.
