Sightseeing

A life long steam buff. I found out that Chemnitz has a railway museum. Not only that it has two working round houses packed full of big steam locos. I first paid the museum back in January this year (2016) but it was all but closed for the winter. Going again this Friday. More pictures to follow. From wait have already seen this is a train lovers heaven. A must visit.

    Worth a visit!
The collection of steam trains and trains in general is impressive. We were occupied and well entertained during bad weather conditions for at least 2 hours. The exhibitions look like they are ready to go at any minute and like they are actually still being used, which is nice. I liked the sreamlined Dieseltrain a lot. But for my son it was a blast to enter the driver`s cabin of a steam train. These engines are so unbelievable huge you feel like a midget next to them. The entrance fee is reasonable with six Euros for adults. This exhibtion is still under construction but it will always be because the people who work there see this as their hobby and are perfectionists at what they do. If you have time to spend, especially in bad weather conditions, this museum is worth a visit!

    First Class Railway Depot Museum
A place fill of history for anyone interested in railways. Located in the old steam depot at Chemnitz and associated yard there are numerous steam, diesel and electric locomotives in the 2 half roundhouses as well as coach and wagon rolling stock. There is also a small narrow gauge railway on site too. The place is fascinating and the care and attention that the working locomotives get in a working depot is clear to see. Staff on the site were extremely helpful and what was pleasing to note was that complete access to the site was possible without all the H&S limitations found in similar British museums. A perfect way to spend 3 or so hours looking at everything on site
