Detour from Dresden

What shall I say! Please make a trip to come to The Foundation "German Watch Museum Glashütte" if you are in Dresden for few days. This museum is definitely one of a kind especially for german watch making and its development in horology including world wars affecting on industry. Very impressive with the info (displayed clearly in english and getman) and all arranged in a typical german modern manner. Free audio guide in english or german or czech. We were very lucky to have a guided tour with the museum director, Mr Reinhard Reichel who has immerse experience in german history and horology. It was lovely surprise and is worth to make the effort to visit, even I am not a fan of watches at all. You can also try to book other tours on their workshop and manufactory with local watch makers like Glashütte Original in advance. Highly recommended but give yourself few hours or a day.

    Amazing museum for watch lovers
This is probably one of my favorite museums. It is located in Glasshutte, a very quaint town near Dresden. The museum seemed fairly new and had an extensive museum upstairs, chronically the German watch industry since the early 1850s. Very cool interactive exhibit near the end of the visit. Many watch shops near the Museum for shopping!

Very informative - worth the detour from Dresden
This excellent museum deals with the history of clockmaking, generally, and the history of the clockmaking community of Glashutte, in particular. I found a most interesting display of how Glashutte was stripped of its clock and watchmaking equipment in 1945 as part of Russian reparations, but rebuilt, by memory, from scratch to become a watchmaking centre of East Germany and, since reunification, a producer of luxury watches I can't afford. One gets there easily by railway from Dresden - a short, pleasant trip with one change of trains.
