Very informative outdoor museum with impressive mining equipment
We went there for a short day trip. The museum includes 2 enormous mining earthmovers (really impressive industrial equipment!!) and a lot of information about the brown coal mining in Germany. It is outdoors, so be sure the check the weather beforehand. There is a playground for the kids and child friendly information on all the info boards. :) Great for an interesting short trip on the way to one of the many lakes :)

very big insects
You can see the huge machines from the Autobahn A38. It's impressive to walk under them, good opportunity for pictures. There are panels explaining how the lignite mining took place. Take the opportunity to walk a bit and see what a beautifull recreational lakes have come in place. For instance walk to the wild water rafting center (1 km)
