Interesting story and drive by with guide

We toured with Sean from Chile Dream Tours, which we highly recommend, and we drove by both sides of the palace and through this area while he gave us a history lesson about the palace and government and the current goings on...we really enjoyed our Santiago overview with Sean and would highly recommend it. Just walking around on foot not knowing wouldn't be a very good use of time in our opinion...but with a guide, even the mundane becomes interesting!

    Historical
Plaza de la Ciudadanía is a public square located in the southern part of the Palacio de La Moneda (Chile's presidential palace) in Santiago. It is wonderful to walk around the square, see some interesting buildings and monuments around and learn historical facts with a local guide. Certainly would very highly recommend visiting this plaza to any tourist.

Underground cultural center, worth paying for special exhibitions
We had some trouble finding the entrance to this, can be a bit hidden depending where you approach it from. It is an underground center (3 floors of it) to one side of the presidential palace. Tickets to the special exhibitions are only sold on one entrance. The rest of it is free, entrance was very cheap and the two that were on when we went (architecture and Bauhaus) were both interesting, well organized and well worth the money. The rest is mainly handicrafts and art, some for sale. There are also 2 cafes. Overall a very nice place to visit and, when we went, pretty quiet, indeed quite a haven in the busy city.
