    Worth the visit for SURE!
We were wandering the streets heading to the funicular and decided to stop by (I knew where it was located). We decided to check it out, and we're GLAD WE DID. They provided an excellent audio guide and the rooms and areas had numbers that you plugged into your unit. This retreat for this Nobel Laureate poet was quite eclectic and quirky, yet it provided a solid glimpse into the atmosphere that the poet used to inspire his writings. To see what happened with the home after the Coup that put Augusto Pinochet in power, and the future events were enlightening. ENJOY.

    Quite an eclectic museum
Pablo Neruda started building it in 1953. It was for Matilde Urrutia, his secret lover of that moment. In her honor, he named the house “La Chascona”, a nickname he gave her because of her plentiful red hair. Neruda was an accomplished author at the time, but he wasn’t quite as famous in 1953. Matilde later became his third wife. Neruda’s other great passion was the sea, and the dining room and living room are inspired by a ship’s cabin and lighthouse. There’s an excellent audio tour and many personal items on display, including the medal awarded to Neruda in recognition of his Nobel Prize in Literature in 1971.
