Parque Nacional de Chicamocha, Santander Department, Colombia

Beautiful views

It is a beautiful experience, to be able to go from one end of the canyon to the next in 25 min cable ride. The park itself is well maintained, There are some nice stops along the way, while you admire the canon from different places. There are some 'adventures' that you can pay for, we went for the extreme swing, we all LOVED it. The time of the year we went though: there were moscas EVERYWHERE, it was quite annoying, but not much we could do about that. The Aquapark was ok, not great: there isn't a 'real pool' but rather 2 big slides, a lazy river, and a kids area: my kids happily spent half a day in there, but that's as far as I would go, somehow I imagined it bigger, and thought of going to the pool for 2 consecutive days (It's really hot there) but half a day was more than enough. It is without question a once in a lifetime experience

A great day trip for families
Took the trek from Bucaramanga to experience the park. Travel time to the park was 90 minutes. Decided to go on a Thursday, hoping there would be less people, and I got it right. It was almost empty which made everything available without any waits. There are multiple ticket options which I feel are a little confusing, so we went for the total package which was priced at 66,000 pesos per person. After entering the park there are a variety of restaurants and small local shops for souvenirs. We began by taking the cable car ride. Probable one of the longer rides in the world. There was no wait, and we went straight on. The views going up from the car are spectacular! At the top, again there are more restaurants, and shops, so food and drink is always available. The food was ok, and priced fairly. We tried a few Artisanal beers that were very good. After speaking a few hours up top, we headed down to the zip line course. I am a little bit of a baby but wanted to try it. Tickets are priced at an extra 27,000 pesos per person. The ride is great. I felt scared which was okay, but thoroughly enjoyed the thrill. It is only short but very fast, and the views below you are incredible. My only negative comment is that it is impossible to video or take photos as the ride is double lively! We then visited the pool area which was beautiful and views surrounding it were to die for. The park is a magnificent venue to take children. The cost can obviously increase with the more you do, but I feel this is a great family day out. Would certainly recommend going midweek as I believe that the weekend gets crazy busy! Going on a Thursday was just perfect. Not a place you really need to revisit, it highly recommended for a day trip.

    Spectacular views
Take your time and check out the many overlooks into the canyon. Road is fairly maintained and there are a number of villages to find food and drink along the route. Great way to spend a half day in the country.
