    Challenging but great experience
Highly recommend dedicating a day to the boiling lake hike if you enjoy a challenge and don’t mind getting muddy! There are a many tough climbs up followed by steep climbs down, walks through streams and as you are in the rainforest it will likely rain! The scenery is amazing, the boiling lake is cool but it was the whole trail which makes it worth it. We hired Chadi Symes as our guide after seeing him mentioned on trip advisor and on travel blogs. Chadi made the day enjoyable, is very knowledgable and we would highly recommend booking with him.

    Boiling Lake and Burning Quads...
We hiked up to Boiling Lake with Just Go Dominca, led by Nahgie. He was a great guide and though a guide is not required, I think it would be a mistake to not use one. Especially as you get close to the lake, it gets tricky (e.g., navigating streams that vary from boiling to "just hot") and having a guide show you the less-tricky path is, I think, the only way to do this. I know folks and fitness vary. We are nearly 60 years old and just recently climbed Kilimanjaro. The hike up and back from Boiling Lake was as challenging as any single day on Kili. This hike is no joke, primarily because it's relentless - lots of ups and downs, so you are constantly climbing and descending in both directions. Also, it's not just a steep path - it involves multiple areas requiring scrambling and using ropes to pull yourself up or lower yourself. It's also, as others have pointed out, quite muddy and slippery. From start to finish it took us about 8hrs. All that said, it's a beautiful and challenging hike. Well worth it. Just don't underestimate the difficulty if you're of a certain age or ability.
