Rio Sapoa, Rivas Department, Nicaragua

3.5 (3 reviews) Spent Ranking #11 in Rivas Bodies of Water

Difficult to access

The Sapoa river flows into Nicaragua at Penas Blancas, some 40 km south of Rivas town. It continues its way to eventually debouch into Lake Nicaragua. It is a relatively small river and difficult to access. Coming from the border there is a turn off towards the East marked Cardenas. This road crosses the Sapoa river. At the bridge you can walk down. Alternatively there is a smaller road to access the peninsula (between Lake Nicaragua and the river). Coming from the border it is the second turn off to the right. The wildlife you can observe is not significantly different from other parts of Rivas department. However it is relatively untouched.
