Fantastic kayak trip, lots of birds and wildlife

With did a 3 hour morning kayak trip with guide Alan from Playa Mangoes. We took it nice and slow to spend time watching and photographing the wildlife; monkeys, caymens and lots of birds. Our guide was really knowledgeable and a great spotter. The gear was good from Playa Mangoes and it was the perfect spot to start and finish, with good food, friendly staff, clean bathroom and safe parking. It also has a lovely beach with deck chairs and swing over the water so perfect for hanging out before or after your tour. This kayak trip was one of our favourite things so far of a packed two weeks to date in Nicaragua.

    A must do in Ometepe
We went kayaking as it was recommended by the hotel. They arranged everything for us, the taxi, the equipment rental, the boat. We were staying in Playa Santo Domingo and the whole thing took approximately 2:30 from the time we left the hotel and came back. We took the boat which will take you, on the lake, to the river. From there you get on the kayak and it takes about 1 hour to be back on the boat. Unless you are an expert I will suggest take the boat (USD $20.00) or you'll find yourself kayaking on the lake through winds and waves to make it to the river. We were told by another couple that the best time to go was the first trip at around 7:00 am so you could see lots of different species. We were lazy and wanted to enjoy our breakfast with our friends so we left at around 8:00 am. We still saw few birds, monkeys, turtles etc. even if you don't see any species the scenery makes it worthwhile.

    Beautiful kayaking from El Peru
Took a ride out to El Peru and went down a small road that had a kayaking sign posted at it. The guide, Edguard was extremely polite and friendly (and spoke English). You can take a motor boat out to the river and then kayak or just kayak from his spot to the river in about 15-20 minutes. The life up the river is absolutely amazing and the view of the two volcanoes when you're in the lake is stunning. On top of it, Edguard gave us some fresh fruit before going out to "give us strength" for the trip. Worth every penny
