    An education
We had a very tight schedule on our short break and managed to get here with just over an hour before closing time and are glad we did, despite having a limited time it was time well spent and a real eye opener to someone whose knowledge of Latvia was limited to say the least. The museum itself is laid out so you walk through time periods of Latvian occupation with each area having interactive displays and information boards as well as little displays for young children to relate to. I can't praise this museum enough it's well presented modern and informative and only wish we had a little more time there.

How Latvia nearly ceased to exist, and why it kept itself going
A thorough, inventive and poignant record of how a war between two mass murderers - one with a toothbrush moustache and the other with a walrus one - led to the annexation of a country that had to remind itself of its identity for 41 years. Anyone who disagreed disappeared to a grave in the woods or a short life in Siberian wildernesses. Some of the letters, some of the lost artefacts of disappeared people, will stay with you for a long time afterwards.
