great restaurants
If you're on foot, you'll spend a lot of time along Thames. Bouchard and the Oyster house were excellent choices for meals, but be sure you book Bouchard in advance. It's dressy. The menu is unique (but not one where you can't find anything you'll like) and the food and service are impeccable. The souffle there is almost enough to justify a trip to Newport.

Tons of Pubs, Restaurants and Little Shops!
Extremely clean with places to eat every where. Plenty of shopping. A lot of walking so make sure you have on a good pair of sneakers and/or comfortable shoes. Some things are pricey but if you search hard enough, you can get a sweatshirt for $25. Definitely more expensive at the wharf.
