Interesting museum

The Buddhist museum in Sittwe is interesting, it has collection of various different items up to 400 hundred years old, such as Buddha statues, coins, banknotes, small sculptures of animals used as weights, paraphernalia and various religious objects. However, all collection is rather chaotically displayed and we missed at least basic English explanation.

Decent way to spend half an hour in Sittwe
Government run museum full of Buddha statues, mostly with no signs. The few English signs are badly written, and most exhibits have no signs at all, which is a shame given how many beautiful statues they have. All kept in one large room in a beautiful building. The architecture and grounds outside here is the highlight. 5,000 kyats entry fee for foreigners, free for Myanmar citizens. Foreigners have to sign a register book. It appears that the museum does not get many foreign visitors. Not surprising, this is Sittwe after all.

    A bit interesting
We came here because the cultural museum was closed. A very run down building with the artifacts on the second floor. The building smells very moldy and the display cases were extremely dirty. The historical aspect of the pieces was just amazing and you would think that they would take better care of their collection.
