Whaling away the time

Went with two friends that we self isolated prior to going on this trip. With off season rates and the ability to distance in Tadoussac, we thought we should go. So glad we did. We got a package that included the museum and bear watching. The guides were versed in French and English. They managed our expectations in that we may or may not see whales. We were blessed to see multiple Fin Whales, 5 humpbacks up close feeding, a couple of Minke Whales and a pod of belugas. You could hear them breathing and they were playful. It was one of the highlights of my life. The gear was a bit worn, however I believe they were using everything they had to ensure equipment was cleaned due to Covid. It is super cold and wet on the water, dress way warmer than you think if you go in Sept or Oct. Whales inhabit the estuary of the Saguanay and the St. Lawrence Seaway from May - Early Nov

    Wet ride but great whales!
We were in a largish zodiac, probably 30 people but they outfitted everyone in sturdy rain pants and jacket. We definitely got a lot of water spray over the boat so tighten down the rain gear and make sure your camera or phone is in waterproof bag, everyone was wet. We saw phenomenal humpbacks and some belugas and minke whales. Our guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Would recommend for sure!

    Good experience
We took a ZODIAC at 10:15am. When we got there everything was very all over the place, nothing seemed organized. We don't speak french so we had a bit of a struggle at times unless we asked questions and then the speaker would switch to English. We were given gear which is likely not washed in between uses which is silly considering COVID precautions, they should really look into something different than this. Also it's more for warmth I guess but if something happened to the boat, all the clothing we were wearing plus the extra gear provided, we would have sunk like a rock. When we got on I was expecting to be given a lifevest but all they said was "lifejackets are at the back but don't worry you won't need one". I said to my husband that's reassuring, if a whale hits the boat or something happens I'm sure we'll all have enough time to get a life jacket on securely. All the seats were full, no social distancing whatsoever. Everyone did wear their masks the entire trip thou. Other than that we had fun, it was like a half hour boat ride to the whale location. We saw Belugas, Fin, Minke, Humpback and one seal. The humpback did come pretty close to the boat and showed off a bit flapping his tail at us which was fun. They're huge and really cool to see in real life. It was very cold on the water. About 7 degrees celcius on land and probably -2 on the water. After whale watching, we went down into the fjord which is breathtaking. I would recommend this experience, it is the reason we chose to come to tadoussac to begin with. We live in Toronto and made it a trip with a few days in Quebec City and a day in Montreal to break up the trip home but I was most excited for Tadoussac and whale watching
