Absolutely amazing scenery - great day trip from Guide
We spent a day driving through Kanbula National Park and loved it. We were staying in Guide and hired a taxi driver to take us there for the day. It was quite easy to find someone to take us, and the cost for the whole day was only 300 RMB, plus the entry fee to the park (I think 65 RMB per person). He picked us up at 8 am and we were back in Guide by around 3 pm. The park is mainly a road through the mountains with a lot of scenic spots to take pictures, including a few small villages. Our driver was great about avoiding the tour buses and knew of a few quiet spots to stop with some walking paths to explore. The scenery along the whole drive changed quite a bit so we were never bored. There is food available at some tourist stops along the way, but it is quite expensive, so I would suggest bringing snacks for the car and having a late lunch when you get back to town. The drive was quite twisty with lots of switch-backs, so bring your Gravol if you usually get motion sick. There are a few bathrooms available along the road, but they're really just squat-toilet outhouses, so be prepared with tissue and hand sanitizer! I think you can also do this as a day trip from Xining but I think it's a farther drive and I heard the entry fee is more expensive from the other end of the park. I would definitely recommend this day trip to anyone visiting Qinghai. It's a nice day with gorgeous vies and without (much of) the super touristy stuff you see in a lot of other places.

Khamra national park (Chi:Kanbula)
This is a great place to do a day trip from Xining. where you can do a couple of hrs nice hiking through a quite forests. At the heart of the park, there is one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist nunneries of Amdo Tibet. there is entry fee.135RMB per person, that includes all the transpiration inside the part.
