hidden lake in history(ovan lake iran)
ovan lake known as Evan lake by locals, is a small lake in Alamut valley of central part of Arburz mountain range, in Qazvin province in Iran. The central part of the lake is approximately good for fishing specially for carp. The only tributary that flows into the lake, is a stream with the same name, Ovan, coming down from northern mounts. The north of the lake is also surrounded by three small villages, namely from east to west: Varbon, Ovan and Zar-abaad. Because of the heavy seasonal rainfall and snowfall in the winters, which at times reaches a few meters, it has numerous water resources. Surrounded by Avan, Varbon, Zavardasht and Zar-abaad villages, the lake is located in an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level, its maximum length is 325 meters, and it has a width of 275 meters. The deepest section of the lake is 7.5 meters and extends over 70,000 square meters. The water of Ovan lake is provided from rainwater and also the ever-gushing springs in its ground which results in very clean and transparent clear water. Ovan Lake is suitable for fishing, swimming and riding boats in summer while in fall it hosts migratory birds such as swan, goose and duck. In winter, the lake can be used for sports such as skiing and ice skating while its surface becomes slippery with ice in winter.

    lake in a dry area
We drove over very bumpy roads to get to this lake and were really looking forward to it - but then were kind over underwhelmed. As we come frome a region with beautiful big lakes this lake was tiny and unspectacular. We only drove past as we would have to have paid a fee to get near. We know it is really nice as it is the only lake in that region for a long while - and if you have many days in the alamut valley it might be a nice place - but we wouldn't recomend going out of your way if you have a tight scedule.
