Lovely
After reading about Curi Cancha Reserve, I was so pleased that we were able to include it in our Costa Rica trip. We visited during the day because we had already booked a night tour elsewhere, but I’m sure it would be wonderful at night. We had an excellent guide, and in my opinion, it’s well worth it to pay for a guide because without one, you’ll surely miss much of what there is to see and learn about. The wildlife is often very cleverly hidden to the untrained eye! In our experience, the Costa Rican guides love what they do and are highly interesting, adding a new dimension to a walk in the forest. When we went, it was not crowded - which was a plus, because I think you have a better chance of seeing animals.

Beautiful Birds, Beautiful Place
Curi- Cancha reserve is a very short drive from Santa Elena, 10 minutes at most. We were accompanied by our guide, Felix, (please see the image of his business card & give him a call. He’s terrific and you won’t regret it. ) who was chosen by Monteverde Lodge &Gardens, and he proved to be an excellent choice. He is personable and extremely knowledgeable, and one of the highlights of our Costa Rican trip was the time spent with him on the trails. We were picked up from our lodge and greeted by Felix and a driver. I don’t remember how much the entrance fees were because Felix handled that part of the visit as part of our private tour but I do remember that you must have your passport or license to present with your payment so make sure you bring ID. Book a private tour for the best experience. Visitation is limited so the trails aren’t crowded. We arrived at 7 and were able to walk for the first couple of hours without seeing many people at all. We did not see quetzals but also didn’t look for them as we had seen them previously in Panama and Costa Rica. We did see many beautiful colorful bird species to add to our bird list. Felix has a scope for viewing and will make sure you get some great pics. Make sure to bring your raincoat and have some long sleeves as you hit the trails in the morning. High winds were blowing during part of our visit. No insects bothered us here either. There is an area with some picnic tables and as a bonus, lots of birds flitting about in the nearby trees. Wonderful experience!
