What can I say. Wow.
What can I say. Wow. Did the whole loop around the mountains with the lake in the centre. Boy was it tough but at the same time exhilarating to be challenged with a very demanding mountain climb. Certainly much harder than I had expected. Luckily we had local guides with us who navigated the route perfectly, otherwise it might be a little dangerous in parts, with a steep drop to the bottom. ( a recent fatality can attest to that). Needs to be respected in parts. But the views, on the sunny and hot day, we were there, were magnificent and well worth all the hard effort to get to the top and see the beautiful landscape of Waterford, and further afield, and to see the lake silhouetting off the sunshine. Took us over 4 hours to do the whole loop, which started at the car park at the bottom, and from the small wooded area at the beginning. Memorable and something which reminded me that sometimes I do live in the nicest country in the world!!

TIP: Fitness needed (don't recommend in wet/windy conditions)
Ok first things first this mountain climb is not easy (I've done quite a few in Ireland incl Mount Brandon, Carrountwohill, Benbulbin etc). This is not to put anyone off however it's best to know this in advance so you can plan accordingly and enjoy. It starts very steep then you go over quite a rocky (sometimes very narrow /right on the edge) path to keep progressing- need proper hiking boots (when you start off this part looks like the top haha like most mountain climbs a little deception doesn't hurt). We did the full loop & we had a stunning day at the end of Oct. views were incredible as you'll see from the pics ? took us 3.5 hours (7.5 km round trip). I don't recommend in wet or windy weather, I'd say it can be quite dangerous. Most of all enjoy if you do this? Ps. Carry a small picnic to enjoy at the top overlooking the Lough, you'll thank me later

Stunning views, no signage
It is really a stunning hike, the start is tough enough but then it's all flat overlooking the lake until you go back down. Signage though is inexistent. I would recommend using one of those Hiking apps, I use All Trails and find it brilliant, constantly shows you if you have gone off track (which happened a few times!). Other than that very important to follow the look clockwise and take it easy for the first climb and enjoy it!!
