Famous Castle & Stone, Really Impressive Gardens

Situated 8km from Cork City, this historic castle is most famous for its stone, which has the traditional power of conferring eloquence on all who kiss it. The word Blarney was introduced into the English language by Queen Elizabeth I and is described as pleasant talk, intended to deceive without offending. The stone is set in the wall below the battlements, and to kiss it one has to lean backwards (grasping an iron railing) from the parapet walk. LAST ADMISSION IS 60 MINS BEFORE CLOSING TIME/Dogs Not Permitted/Drone Photography Prohibited

Famous Castle & Stone, Really Impressive Gardens
We went for the castle and Blarney Stone experience. But didn't anticipate that the gardens surrounding it were so well-kept, varied and had so much more to explore. Take time to see the cave, house (open early, not late), lake, staircases, ponds and passages through all type of flora. We ended up spending 3-4 hours, so be sure to arrive by 1-2pm as it closes at 5pm, and you must be out by 6 (which if you are in the back could take a long time to get to the gates). This is one of the best, most varied private gardens I have seen in travels throughout the world and was not expected beforehand. Get your fear worked out and kiss the stone. They had good sanitation practices between every person, and safety was evident. Have a friend ready the camera for a video because it happens quick. If your car is in the parking past the closing time, there was a large fee after 6pm to release your car. So, finding a spot on a street in the town may be a good bet, although it was limited to 2 hours.

    Blarney Stone Reality
Admission for seniors was E14.00 This allowed you to enter the grounds and walk around the property to enjoy the amazing gardens such as the Poison Garden and the Fern Garden. There are cafes and a gift shop. Plenty of parking. It also allowed entry to Blarney Castle where you can kiss the Blarney Stone. This sounds like a fun activity, but there are some caveats: 1. The stone is located at the very top of the castle, so that's how far you will have to walk up. 2. The stairway is round and very narrow. The steps are wedge shaped irregular rock. It can be tricky and unstable at times to climb the steps. 3. The railing is a rope which runs vertically, fastened to the wall. 4. It is quite high. Therefore if you have mobility issues, claustrophobia, or a fear of heights I would pass. When you get to the top, there are workers who help you, You have to lay on your back, hang your head way back and down then kiss the wall where they point. The had sanitizer that they spray he stone with between guests.
