Beautiful island walk and picnic

A wonderful day on a deserted island! We took a picnic to eat on the grass overlooking a bay teaming with sea birds and seals. We walked, chatted and watched a colony of gannets. The ferry was absolutely fine. The young crew along with Declan took good care as we were transferred 5 at a time from the ferry to the dinghy to take us onto the island. We were lucky that as it was low tide we didn't have to wade through any water (people bought wellies for this purpose which they left on the beach) but did have to scramble over rocks so some mobility is needed. We are all women in our 50s and 60s and managed ok. We were not rushed and the young lad managing the dinghy was very helpful. All in all a fantastic day out!

    A must see, would recommend
Fantastic day out, definitely a must see if you love nature walks and wildlife. We travelled with 7 adults (30-40yr olds) and 2 kids (2 and 8yrs). Was concerned about the negative reviews but have nothing but good things to say about our experience. Yes there is a wet landing as it’s a natural island without a pier but it’s well advertised and a comprehensive info sheet is provided with the booking. The young crew did their best to get us as close to the sand as possible. We had to walk through calf height water on arrival (just took shoes and socks off) but at departure they were able to get directly on the sand. Help was provided for our friends with young kids and at no point were we rushed. Crew asked us about our day and advised where to go for different views. We took a picnic lunch to enjoy on the island as again it’s a natural place so no facilities (public toilets at Kilmore quay before leaving). Originally had thought 4hrs could be too long on the island but we could’ve spent longer walking around and enjoying watching the puffins and other birds. Would recommend to friends
