Lough Owel, Province of Leinster, Ireland

5.0 (14 reviews) Spent Ranking #7 in County Westmeath Bodies of Water

Gorgeous!

Lovely lake to swim in, well maintained ladders/walkway. Bins available, portaloo in the carpark and both days we went had coffee van/ice cream for sale. Water is really clear. Carpark gets full quickly on sunny days and there's limited space on the green area (which is sloped) but such a gorgeous spot!

    Picturesque Lake
I was barreling along the N4 when I noticed an unusual sculpture, a flock of geese atop a pole. Curious, I pulled into the carpark and read the few sighs for tourist information, Portnashangen cycle network and wildlife at Lough Owel. Unfortunately there was no information on the geese sculpture. Picturesque lake and a number of cars with occupants enjoying the scene. Worth a stop if passing.

    A lot to do
Lough Owel offers many different activities for all. The views from the Sligo road at the carpark are lovely and if you fancy a dip or dive at the diving boards the water is clear and deep. The lake provides for great fishing with great stocks of brown trout and other fish. There is also a pitch and putt course close to the south shore and there are nice walks around the lake at the carpark there.
