Fantastic event, incredible staff!

I went as part of a university society for the werewolf event and I couldn't be happier with my experience. The stories were so well put together, and the atmosphere was perfect for Halloween. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for events here in the future! The entire staff were exceptional, they were all so attentive and inviting. I need to give a special mention to the curator Oisin, who was an incredible speaker and so friendly to our group. I would highly recommend this establishment to any of my friends.

    Excellent Local Heritage
Its great to see buildings recycled and this community run museum is located in the former Abbeyleix North National School, built in 1885. The museum gives a brief look at the history of the area, the oldest planned estate town in Ireland. the railway, carpet weaving, household items, etc. There is an excellent model railway for rail enthusiasts. The model of the Rock of Dunamase fortifications was of particular interest. If you have ever wondered about 'bog butter' there is a lump on display. The Titanic connection was established when the carpet company supplied at least 5 carpets to the liner. There is a small fountain at the front of the building which was built by the de Vesci family. Worth a visit if anywhere near Abbeyleix.

    Model Railway in Museum
This is a small museum on the edge of the town of Abbeyleix which features a working model railway exhibition. There is free parking outside as well as a play ground for children. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
