Glendalough Upper Lake, Province of Leinster, Ireland

4.5 (101 reviews) Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #6 in County Wicklow Bodies of Water

Beautiful, Picturesque, Historic

This is a must see location if you want a relaxing day trip. Car parking is plentiful at a cost of €4 / €5 (depending where you park). It is advisable to take a packed lunch as other options are limited. There are food carts where you can get takeaways, coffee/pastries. There is also a restaurant/bar at the hotel where pricing seems reasonable. There are plenty of trailed walks which can be taken to the lake / tower / waterfall and more. The terrain is very manageable in a pair of runners. Family dogs are allowed once they are kept on a leash. My only disappointment is the condition of the public toilets which were a disgrace. They don't look like they've been looked after or cleaned in weeks, especially the ones in the carpark nearest the lake. Otherwise this is a location not to be missed.

    Pretty good walk
As you drive into Glendalough you will first come to a tourist center where you can park your car and walk 1.4 Km to the upper lake through the lower lake and the walk is scenic and nice. Alternatively if you do not have time for this walk, drive straight up to the upper lake where there is another parking lot. They have clean rest rooms and a snack bar too. I personally liked the short walk that took about 30 mins to complete in a loop.
