Surf and shells!

What a beautiful beach. I could sit there all day for days and watch the day go by, listening to the locals hock their whistles and see sunsets for weeks to no end. The shells were beautiful to collect on a great walk up towards the boat taxi area...

Great beach to swim in and watch sunsets from
If you're looking for culture, you'll be disappointed here since most people here are Americans. If you want a beautiful beach with warm water to swim in (but watch out for sections with a rocky bottom) and a place to watch brilliant sunsets, this is it. Also great for beginner's surfing. I personally feel this was a much better beach than Playa Jaco or Playas del Coco. You will easily find ticos who share the same sentiment. There are a few supermarkets to get groceries if you need. ATMs are easily accessible. Several tour operators are available to choose from as well as spas/ nail salons and surf schools. This is a small town and everyone is super friendly, which made is great for me as a solo traveler. You end up bumping into someone you've met before. Given the COVID times that we're in, I made Playa Tamarindo my jump off point to multiple excursions that I took and I'm so glad I did that instead of staying at different areas in Costa Rica. Made my life so much easier since finding shuttle transfers to different areas was extremely difficult (almost non-existent) and what you have to end up doing is getting a private transfer, which is $200 minimum.

    stunning sunsets!
magical sunsets, live music along the beach bars every night, everything lit up- it's a beautiful place! Like anywhere that has tourists year round- people do come up to you & try to sell their merchandise, all are very kind, not pushy. Politely waved them passed without issues. Horseback riding along the beach, catamaran tours leave from the shore line. Beach can be busy, but more so quiet & relaxing, people do bring their dogs on the beach!
