Lokvarsko jezero, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Croatia

4.5 (13 reviews) Spent More than 3 hours Ranking #2 in Lokve Bodies of Water

Beautiful spot for relaxation

Lokvarsko jezero (Lake Lokve) is an artificial lake, situated about 30 kilometers from Rijeka in an idyllic natural landscape, near a small village Lokve in Gorski Kotar. It was created from the former Lokvarka River, in 1955, as a part of a hydropower system. It perfectly fits into the natural environment and is one of the favorite spots for athletes and recreationists, especially fishermen, because with its forty meters of depth it is rich with fish, mostly chub, carp and trout (the biggest trout in the world was caught here in 1973, weighing an incredible 25.4 kilograms). It is a beautiful place for walking and relaxing with an excellent restaurant on its shore (Restaurant “Eva”) where you can enjoy local food in a peaceful atmosphere with a great view on the lake.

    Resting comfortable
Nice lake for picnic and relaxing. If you love lakes and wild forest, this place is for you. Worth during winter while snowing and frozen water.

Nice lake for swimming and hiking, biking in quiet environment
The lake is man-made (dam, reservoir). The water is very clean (green), a bit cold but awesome for relaxing and swimming. Though we have experienced it ourselves, it apparently also offers great opportunities for fishing, biking and walking. It was a refreshingly quiet location compared to some of the beaches we visited in Croatia. There is also an opportunity to view the lake with a small boat, which leaves every hour.
