Laguna Blanca, Potosi Department, Bolivia

4.5 (134 reviews) Spent < 1 hour Ranking #9 in Uyuni Bodies of Water

Laguna Blanca is a beautiful lake

The characteristic of the white color of the water, which gave the lake its name, is caused by the high amount of minerals suspended in it. Only a narrow corridor separates the lagoon of color Blanca from the other lagoon color Green. Both are within the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Wildlife Reserve. The milky and surreal waters have incredible tones, this tour is absolutely recommendable.

    Milky with reflections Impressive view
The only milky lake we saw. Think it's the borax. As always, lots of birds around. This is fourth or fifth lake we've seen and each one is different so when the guides say we're heading to another just go with it and enjoy.

    Interesting
Travelling across the altiplano towards the Chilran border there are a number of different lagoons, formed from spring water and rainfall. The colours reflect the mineral composition. This milky white lagoon has borax as its main mineral. The lagoons are not particulatly attractive in themselves, though have birds, including flamingos, but they are made more attractive as they have snop capped mountains as a backdrop!.
