Essequibo River, Potaro-Siparuni, Guyana

4.5 (20 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Potaro-Siparuni Bodies of Water

Apoteri Village to King William Falls

This stretch of water is amazing with no logging, gold mining and no commercial fishing. Not a piece of trash in sight. After traveling in the So. American rain forests this is one of the most pristine. Water are teaming with fish and even one of your biggest freshwater fish the Arapaima Gigas along with giant catfish. Cock of the rock birds along with jaguar sighting makes this a special place.

    Michelles island
Next to the Kurupkari ferry along the Essequibo River you will find Michelles island. It is in proximity to the Iwokrama eco lodge. The island is located next to a beautiful rapid and has its own private beach. Rooms are available for only 15 US and food will be provided by Michelle who is owning a snack shop next to the ferry crossing. The place is full of wildlife and Michelle is further renting out boats (engine or paddle) for beautiful nature trips. All is much more beautiful and much cheaper than at the eco lodge. I had the best time in Guyana staying alone on that island. Michelle is serving food from a boat in the morning and can be easily contacted that way.
