Outdoor experience in the middle of a lake
An outdoor island full of small paths. Several organised events offered during summer months but island is at it best as a picnic site and to wander around on its own. Cafe and toilets available. Acces the boat trip to theisland from Laukontori-square.

Viikinsaari - Tampere's best kept secret
Viikinsaari is Tampere's best kept secret to most foreign tourists. The island is only a 20min ferry ride from Laukontori docks in the city centre (next to Keskustori, Koskikeskus, Sokos Hotel Ilves). Take a trip (around 10€) with friends and family and spend the day at this lovely island. The island has a restaurant, grill, sauna and other fun things to do. You can also take part in the "Love Trail" which is a sign-guided walk around Viikinsaari and through the nature reserve part of the island. Ferries go around every hour to and from the island and the views of Tampere from the ferry is alone worth the money! Viikinsaari is also well known for it's summer festivals like SaariBlues (Tampere's best blues & roots festival), SaariHelvetti (Tampere's top metal festival) and many other events. As a Tamperean, I definitely recommend visiting. Note, the island is open in the summer only.
