Versatile old factory area

The Finlayson area is located by the Tammerkoski rapids. It was founded in 1820 by James Finlayson from Scotland. He noticed the energy potential of free rapids. The Finlayson textile manufacturing ended in Tampere at the beginning of the 1990s. The old factory buildings are left. Today there are museums, offices, bars, restaurants, a movie theater, and a shopping center. This summer, you can find Finland’s first rooftop walk on the roofs of these historic buildings. There is also a rooftop cafe.

    Unexpected Glory
This string of factories adorn the river. It is well worth a stroll among them. They reminded me of Manchester, NH and demonstrate the rea possibilities for rehabilitating old mills into smoething magnificent

    Oddly vacant
The massive former cotton factory complex had little visible life on a Friday in July. All I could see were business offices, no terraces or other activities were in the open. I visited the free Finnish Labour Museum, looked at the Finlayson Palace terrace for a lunch possibility and continued over the bridge to Tampella.
