Museo de Sitio Tulipe, Pichincha Province, Ecuador

Very much worth the short detour to see
Someone spent a lot of time laying this indoor/ outdoor museum. Beautiful facilities (including nice clean bathrooms) and grounds. Cost is minimal ($3/per adult) and includes English speaking guide. Security guards in parking lot to watch car. 1. Lovely planted gardens and guide explains what each plant is and what used for- many different sizes of anthriums, palms of heart- use to make local cerviche etc. 2. Indoor museum very interesting including their variation on "big foot" covered in plant material. 3. Outdoor ceremonial pools, tolas and terraced spectator seating fascinating. I think all ages- little kids to elderly would enjoy this site. Even if not interested in archeology.

Interesting place
This museum dedicated to the Yumbo people was intriguing. I wished we could have spent more time there. Our guide gave us an overview, but I think there was a lot more there to see and learn about. The views were beautiful and the history was interesting!

Worth a visit if you're in the area
There's not many historical sites in this part of Ecuador so it was a pleasant stop to visit here. The site is of the Yumbos nation and covers three distinct periods of settlement: 2000-500BC; 800-1690AD and after 1870. The gaps seem to be due volcanic activity. What you can see are (it is thought) ceremonial pools, the river has changed course since then. $3 entry. It's about 70km from Quito.
