Tonle Bati, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

3.5 (132 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #30 in Phnom Penh Bodies of Water

The ruins aren't great BUT the lake is awesome!

Ok so I agree with everyone else, especially being pestered by kids as soon as you get there! The temple is ok. BUT on the Mekong round the back is where it is super cool! There are floating huts on the river with hammocks inside. They cook some delicious food delivered to your water hut. Cold beer, coke whatever you desire... Very relaxing and no one bothers you just a fly or two ;-)... All u need to do is relax! Bliss!

    The ruin experience ruined
In years past I would recommend Tonle Bati to those who would not be able to visit Angkor Wat region. It provides an opportunity to visit an ancient site on an afternoon excursion from Phnom Penh. More difficult to recommend these days as the vendors have reached a level of aggressiveness sufficient to ruin the ruin experience. Gird up your loins before descending from your transport!

    A bit disappointed..
On arrival you are immediately harassed by kids...asking to buy flowers to offer to budha. And others asking money... I've been saying "no" million times but 1 or 2 kids were following from start till I go back to my tuk tuk. First the temple is not fantastic (quite small) but also these kids has made this visit a nightmare ! So visit can be avoided.
