Sri Thep Historical Park, Phetchabun Province, Thailand

4.0 (22 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Si Thep Historic Walking Areas • National Parks

Small, well-organised historical park

This is the first historical park we saw with significant reliefs on the temples. The main area has a Hindu, Buddhist and Khmer temple, all older but better preserved than we saw elsewhere. There's also a small museum, and an archaeological site where ancient skeletons, jewellery and tools were found. There are more ruins further away, but we didn't visit them. There's an open tram with knowledgeable driver to the main areas, and all attractions are well documented in Thai and English. Even though it is quite small and quiet, the park is a nice addition to the other historical parks in the area.

    A Very Warm Welcome
Si Thep Historical Park, which is located in Petchabun Province is 130 km south of Petchabun city, and only a few dozen kilometers north of Lop Buri province on highway 21. The Si Thep Historical Park covers an area of almost 5 square km complete with remnants of walls and moats.nearby there are also ruins of a tower and couple of Khmer monuments. In all honesty The excavation which was still going on when I visited last year was not all that impressive, but like I said there was work still going on,so it may be a good idea to visit if your in the area.I do have one or two photos which I will try to add later as i,m having problems trying to scan them. One thing for sure is,that you do get a "very warm welcome indeed. Directions If your traveling north up the 21 carry on to Si Thep (as it is written on the signs) then you take a right at 2211 at its about 9 km from here Tip There is a shortage of good hotel accomodation in the area,However I would recommend the Bankanta which is about 5 km south of Si Thep on the left handside as your travelling north of (21).You will not find it listed anywhere,(not in english anyway) Not sure if i,m allowed to put their Tel number on here ,so if you want to drop me a message.I will be only too happy to give it to you.
