Nashua River Rail Trail, Massachusetts, United States

Enjoy the trail year-round

In every season, this trail is a wonderful place. It can get busy on sunny weekends in summer and fall. For more peaceful experiences, choose early mornings or winter days. The trail goes past some residential areas, yet it still feels like a park. The prime section of the trail is the 2.5-mile stretch between Rt. 113 in Pepperell and Sand Hill Road in Groton (Massachusetts). There are no road crossings in that stretch, the Nashua River is at its loveliest, and there's an ice cream stand on summer weekends at the Pepperell end.

Paved, clear sides, well marked road crossings. Popular, mid day
This route can be done in 3 short segments, or end-to-end/round trip. Essentially, a flat straight ride, there are many pond and river views, with occasional wildlife (deer, bear). No cause for concern, given the trails popularity. Go early or later, to avoid crowding.

    Great Ride
This rail trail is paved throughout. The grades are very easy and the path is nice and wide. The trail does get very busy on weekends and parking areas fill fairly early on nice days. There are some areas to stop along the way if you are looking to ride and fish. There are also a few possible lunch spots near the trail if you are looking for a bite to eat. Besides biking, walking and running, the trail is also used for horseback riding.
