Shawnee Mountain Ski Area, Pennsylvania, United States

Lacking advanced terrain, best ski school around.

This place is absolutely incredible. We are Camelback season pass holders but are deeply concerned about the direction of their ski school. I have an Indy Pass so I decided I had nothing to lose and check out Shawnees ski school. For the same price as 1.5 hours at Camelback you get 3 hours at Shawnee and the level of teaching is far higher. This ski area is clearly dedicated to growing the sport of skiing and the local community. The terrain is generally very mild so it’s fantastic for getting your whole family into the sport.

    Awesome day despite COVID.
Took my 8 year old daughter to ski for the first time here as I learned to ski here many (many many) years ago. I reserved a "first time skier" package (1 hour group lesson, lift ticket and rental) for about $120 and a lift ticket and rental for me for about $90. I forgot how awful rental boots are! The teacher seemed like she'd be great on a one on one but the lesson was not very worthwhile. Almost no skiing was done on the lesson and the kids all agreed that it was on the boring side. I should've done a private...oh well. Then the fun began! I took her up on the lifts to the top of the mountain and the beginner trails were very well maintained albeit a bit crowded (not sure there are capacity restrictions in place, but it felt like a usual holiday ski day). Overall, The mountain is doing a great job with COVID restrictions. I'd say that almost everyone was wearing a mask/face covering and more or less distancing as possible. There was staff constantly reminding the few stragglers. Unclear about the food policy. Seems like you can't bring food, but people were definitely eating home-brought food. I really did not want to go inside and buy food during COVID. Needs clarification and I can't see how they can restrict food like wrapped sandwiches, snacks, etc. The snow was impressively not bad for Pocono snow. We really had a great day. Staff was really nice and helpful. The mountain was as I remember it: a great place to have an awesome experience.

    Great family time
Went snowboarding for MLK weekend with the family and had a great time. Quick check in and equipment sign out. Friendly staff. Only thing I would recommend is for them to offer packages for a ski/snowboard combo or a ski/tubing combo so you don’t have to pay for everything separately.
