Randy Gilson has transformed his home into a colorful, living work of art

One of the country’s most colorful landmarks, Randyland is artist Randy Gilson's own home and backyard—created by himself using paints, plants, plastic animals, yard sale finds and discarded construction materials. Visitors are invited to explore the public art displays in and around this whimsical outdoor museum which is located in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood. The area is also brimming with community gardens and features must-sees like the Mattress Factory Museum, a modern art museum which pioneered site-specific installation art. Randyland is open every day of the week and is free to visit, but donations are welcome. – Tripadvisor

"I can tell by the smiles."
I'm glad we took the time and the walk to visit RandyLand. We had come from the Andy Warhol Museum and it took about 20 minutes to walk over. We spent about 30-40 minutes looking at the bright, funky painted "everything" in the courtyard, along the outside of the house, and the information signs in the neighborhood. The plants were in bloom, the sun was warm, and it's just a wonderful, positive vibe here. As we walked up the hill toward RandyLand, a gentleman stepped out of the courtyard and said, "Is this your first time here? I can tell by the smiles." It's free, but we put a little cash into the donation box so Randy can keep making art. If the weather is really warm, stop a few doors down at the Mayfly Market and try their sorbet! And also wander through the "Stop and Sniff" community garden.

    Loved it
We loved this interesting display of reused objects turned into art! The little details were fun and the informational signs were interesting. The kids loved it and we hung out for about half an hour, taking pictures with the art and talking about the little details. It’s free but we added to the donation box so that Randy can keep up the effort of a free, accessible, funky art spot.
