Rail fans Delight and Much More!
An outstanding PA State Museum dedicated to the history of rail transportation in the Commonwealth and to the Pennsylvania Railroad in particular. Fine collection of locomotives, coaches and railcars thru the years in a year round indoor and seasonal outdoor collection. Helpful staff are present to answer any questions. Exhibits tell the story of railroading and the people involved. At one point the Pennsylvania Railroad alone employed over 110,000 people, more than the military of the United States. Interactive displays related to railroading help to keep younger visitors engaged. Reasonable priced for a family outing and across the street from the separate but equally interesting Strasberg Railroad offering scenic rail excursion thru Lancaster’s Pennsylvania Dutch [Amish] country. Well worth the trip.

Fantastic
The museum was updated since the last time we were there. The upgrades were outstanding. A lot more than real trains. Several model train layouts too. A replica of an early 20th century town was fun and informative. There were a lot of Very interactive activities throughout the museum.! Very interesting for all ages. The guides (especially Kevin) were so friendly and helpful. We had a 12:30 train ride,so we went to the museum,went on the train ride and then our 8 year old grandson asked to go back to the museum. Great day trip. Take snacks and drinks to enjoy between the 2. Food cannot be taken into the museum. Our 8 year old after checking all gift shops found a train set at the museum shop for $24.99.
