Fun day trip
Very cool experience. Real coal mine. You take a short train ride down into the mine which is awesome in itself. Loud and bumpy. Makes you really feel like a coal miner going to work the mine. You take a walking tour through part of the mine which is very cool. Make sure you wear a jacket/hoodie for the tour it's chilly and wet. They do have light jackets if you don't as well as hard hats. Very informative tour with tons of info. A definite if you like history. Even if you don't I think you'll enjoy the tour as it's so unique. There is also a small museum packed with coal mining items that you can look at before or after the tour. Small gift shop as well. Highly recommend. Definitely a hidden gem!

Dark, cold, and damp but very worthwhile!
We have visited other mines and found them very interesting - life was so very hard for the miners. We searched for a coal mine that was not too far and found No. 9 Coal Mine. It was very rewarding and informative. The museum is not very sophisticated, but it is an honest slice of the life the miners endured. The guide, Kelly, gave a great tour and was very well versed in the mine and mining. It is cold and damp in the mine and a jacket is absolutely necessary. Go see it, you will not be disappointed.
