Frick Art and Historical Center, Pennsylvania, United States

4.5 (546 reviews) Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent Ranking #25 in Pittsburgh Speciality Museums

A free gem of a museum.

At this time online reservations were necessary, however, we were not held to our actual designated time. I called to see if we could come earlier and was assured that wasn’t a problem. We only had a reservation to the car & carriage museum but was allowed to visit the small art museum also. There is also a small greenhouse that we could visit. Do note that the historic house is closed due to Covid restrictions. Did I mention it was free? Bonus! I believe we spent a little over an hour there. Masks are required for the unvaccinated and optional for vaccinated folks. Use your discretion. The staff there is helpful and courteous. We probably enjoyed the car & carriage museum the most. Well worth a stop if you have time.

A Source Delectation And A Less Discovered Gem in America's "Steel City"
On a pleasant April Saturday,I returned to the Frick Art Museum..It was great being back at the Frick Art Museum.I appreciated its fine collection of paintings from the Medieval,Renaissance, and Baroque Periods. At the Frick Art Museum,I enjoyed Italian Byzantine style paintings from the late 13th and early 14th Century by Rainaldo Rainuccio Da Spoleto(splendid use of silver leaf)and Master of Scrovegy Chapel Presbytery. Both of these paintings were very punctilious. I saw delightful paintings from the Italian Trecento.14th Century which employed egg tempera and gold leaf on wood panel by Lippo Memmi,Bernardo Daddi,Master of San Sepolcro,Francrsco Vannuccio("Saint Catherine")and Biagio Goro Ghezzi..I also appreciated Early Renaissance Italian paintings by Sassetta and Giovanni Dei Paolo("Nativity")' I relished fine Netherlandish Renaissance Period Paintings by Jean Bellegambe and Hans Vereycke which employed oil paint.I also saw superb paintings by these Flemish Painters,Peter Paul Rubens and Jan Van Os.There was a splendid Dutch Master painting by Jan Steen("Music Lesson")that captivated me. I liked its collection of French Baroque Paintings, especially the paintings of Jean Pater,Nicholas Lancret,Jean Nattier, and Lenain. Other painters with fine paintings on display were Francesco Guardi,Arthur Devis,Ubertini(Late Renaissance, fine light effects)Hubert Robert(quality Neoclassicism),and Jean Demarne("Seine At Saint Cloud,18th Century).I also saw impressive 17th Century Flemish Tapestries. The temporary exhibit of Glass Art dedicated to"Black Lives Matter" by Vanessa German was also worthy of encomium. At the Frick Art Museum,Covid 19 Protocol is strictly enforced(masks are mandatory,as well as making reservations online).Admission to the Frick Art Museum is free,.but your donations help this small art museum maintain its excellence.
