We booked a 6 day package for birding and hiking around Lake Habema and Ibele trail. From the beginning on the organization of the trip was poor. Mac (the head of Trek Papua) didn't know Ibele trail, so we planned to stay at Lake Habema for two nights in order to walk through the forest downhill afterwards. The first 2 nights at the lake were nice. The third night we had to spent directly at the T-junction sleeping at the street on the ground, which is not what one expects from a nature trip. From there we made a day trip downhill and back to the junction, which was extremely steep and partly quite dangerous because of the slippery slopes above the torrent. Trek Papua: hiking and birdinng lake habema and ibele trail
We made a 6 days hiking and birding trip organised by Trek Papua Tours. Demi Wasage (manager) was not able to organise a stisfying trip for us. The trip was totally overpriced and the porters as the bird guide not really willing to hike down the ibele trail, which leads from lake Habema to Wamena. Our contract sais that we should hike down the ibele trail, but we didn´t do. Instead we stood longer in the lake Habema area! We were droven up to the lake one dayer later than it was planed, and we were picked up one day earlier from this area, so that we lost much time, spending on the trail or in the nature. Insted we were more time in Wamena in the Hotel, which was not our aim. The alternativ program for the first and last day was really uninteresting, we were forced to hike in degraded forest, where birdlife was very poor. In the end we didn´t see all the interesting birds, which you can find between Wamena and lake Habema!! It seems, that Trek Papua is not able to organise such a tour. We paid 2500 $ for 6 days, but we didn´t get much for this high price.
