Beautiful Collection & The Only Proper Museum in Jayapura
We went here on weekdays to see the fascinating range of Papuan artefacts (that most of them was selected by Michael Rockefeller and his team in the 1950s). However, I recommend you to have the local guide if you want to have deeper information about its collection. After all, I really suggest you to go here since it’s the only proper museum around Jayapura.

Small Museum to see art and culture of Indonesia
Visited museum after returning from making visit to island in middle of large inland Sentani lake. Museum offered a special tour to our 50 person group in three older buses. Enjoyed seeing the giant carved wooden statues, skulls reflecting those who passed on, and stuffed rare local birds and animals. Museum has incredible gift shop.

Asmat Totem Pole
I entered this museum with my guide. He said it was closed in weekend but he asked to open this museum in advance and I was able to enter here. There was a big totem pole made by Asmat in the entrance. I am not familiar with art but I understand that it is a great masterpiece. The guide said this totem pole had been a part of collection of Michael Rockefeller. This museum also has folk arts and old tools. Surprisingly, some of them are sold.
