Hills with a great view of Danau Sentani

This is an historic site on Gunung Ifar, which has a spectacular view of Sentani Lake & Sentani Airport. At the top the view is stunning. looking down over Lake Sentani is breathtaking. The monument itself, just like any other monument which tells you the history about Dutch in Indonesia. If i had a chance to visit Jayapura next time, this place will be my most visited place then.

    Stunning Vantage Point
The MacArthur Monument is an historic site on Gunung Ifar overlooking Sentani in the Indonesian province of Papua. It sits on the location of General MacArthur's military base which comprised a pivotal place for the war in the Pacific and the rollback of Japanese conquest towards the end of WWII. The monument sits atop a hilly drive through an Indonesian military base. At the top the monument itself is inside a small barriered area which it seemed needs to be unlocked for access. The drive up is spectacular, vivid panoramic scenes of the lush Papuan environment. The hills in this part of Sentani are beautiful. At the top the view is simply stunning. Looking down over Lake Sentani is breathtaking. The expanse of Sentani town stretches towards the hills and mountains. There is something truly special about looking down to the airport and watching planes take off and land quite some distance below the vantage point. As a viewpoint, MacArthur Monument is absolutely amazing and any trip to this part of the world must include that sight. The monument itself is relatively modest. A medium sized monument to mark the spot carries a small description. A small hut carries pictures from the time and a bit of explanation. There is a bit of English here as well thanks to a small investment from a MacArthur descendent. A touch of pro-Indonesia sentiment is easy to take. MacArthur is considered something of a hero, after all he took a massively superior force and rolled back a determined if out-gunned enemy. The site itself is grassy and pleasant. A lovely place to be. It can get a bit sunny but there are a couple of sheltered viewing spots. This part of the island of Papua is a beautiful spot to be in. An incredible viewpoint and an incredible moment in history.

    Grea landscape view from high
The location was about 1,5 hour from Jayapura. This is the historic site of World War 2, the legacy of General MacArthur. There were a monument and small building containing historical photo General MacArthur. But the best here were great view of hills, sea, islands and the runway of Sentani Airport from high that create a beatiful landscape. In the afternoon the sunset was also amazing. This is a recomended spot to visit after landing or before take off at Jayapura.
