The ruins of the former medieval castle Toutenburg dating from the year 1524
The small medieval town of Vollenhove once had two medieval castles.Castle Toutenburg was build in 1524-1531 and was partly demolished during the 80years war in 1581.After remodeling in 1627 it was finally demolished in the year 1800.The charming historic ruins stand on an island in the historic park "Havezate Oldruitenborgh";free entrance;public city park. The other castle dating from the year 1170;Oldehuys was also demolished;the castle moat was converted into the 19th century fisherman's port of Vollenhove, also worth a look, next to the main church.
