Knowledgable and relaxing
We took a tour with Koppers. The local guide and skipper Jack is witty and knowledgable on the history of the town. This is the best way to see the town, canals and lake in an hour. Cost is reasonable (€7.50 pp) and it includes a coffee when you board.

Must do boat ride
When we visited Giethoorn we wanted to take a boat ride. A walk is the best for taking pictures. But you can see more and in comfort with a boat cruise. There are 2 choices. Guided boat tours or taking a boat your self. Guided boat tour is actually more expensive if you are a group of 4+ than renting a private boat. 7,50 per person. Benefits you get : a guide informing you about Giethoorn, free tea and coffee, covered boat ride always a plus in the Netherlands, relatively quick 1 hour. But we were a group of 9 including 3 toddlers. So our choice was easy. A boat for our selves. These boats are all electric whisper boats. So quiet. There are 2/3 boat sizes. The normal one is for max 6 persons 15€ an hour per boat. The one e got is a sloop. For max 10 persons. 35€ per hour. 1 hour only the city, 2 hours whole city, 3 hours including the nature reserve. With extra benefit a steering wheel and cushions. 2/3 hour cruising , your bottoms will thank you. The steering wheel is easier for steering, but the wheel is so sensitive is quite difficult to steer. Especially in the first part of the cruise, it can get really busy and quite hectic. The weather was cloudy so we were ok on a open boat. But if it’s raining or very sunny umbrellas are a most. We bought drinks and food along with us. We can have a picnic, but we chose to eat the while cruising. The boats are quite stable. My brother chose koppers. Good clean boats.they also do guided tours. Location is quite central. Just across of the fish shop. There is a clean and large toilet. I love the flexibility. We booked for 3 hours, but weather was not good. We were able to pay 1 hour and the rest was calculated afterwards. Please note a deposit of 50€ was required. All in all we had a great time and it was quite affordable. Giethoorn is a must visit. So. Beautiful and picturesque.
