Historic former beer distillery that's now a boutique shopping centre

The Distillery District is an internationally acclaimed village of brick-lined streets and dozens of vibrantly restored Victorian Industrial buildings. It’s one of Ontario’s hottest tourist attractions and home to live theatres, galleries, fashion, design and jewelry boutiques, unique cafes and award-winning restaurants. It’s all completely closed to traffic and just a few minutes walk from downtown Toronto.

Historic former beer distillery that's now a boutique shopping centre
Beautifully and faithfully restored former beer distillery that makes you feel like you're in the 1800s. Lots of independent furniture, design, clothing, and art stores everywhere to shop in. Tons of great restaurants, coffee shops, and ice cream stores (highly recommend visiting Balzac's Coffee!). Even a theatre for plays and concerts! Good transport connections either by walking along the Esplanada or taking the 504B King streetcar line. Obviously pricier than other areas of the city, you're paying for the theming and atmosphere.

Visually nice with lots of independent retailers
Lovely historical district with independent shops and food/drink places. We took a walking tour on a Sunday which was informative and helped us learn the history We came back on the Monday to look round the shops but quite a few were closed on Mondays so bear that in mind. Must visits are the Scooped ice cream shop (spend the extra $2 and get the delicious waffle cone), getting a beer from Mill Street Brewpub and browsing the shops (I especially liked Peace Collective) Also it's not obviously sign posted but you can actually go into a lot of the buildings and see old photos/drawings of the past
