Short subway ride from Double Tree hotel, used City pass for admission. This was a great deal! 10/21/22

Built in 1914, this castle on a hill overlooking Toronto is regarded as a treasured heritage landmark. At Casa Loma, you can explore three levels of elaborately decorated rooms, including the Conservatory which has Italian marble floors and Ontario marble side panels. Permanent exhibitions and special exhibits here feature early Canadian history. The castle is also a popular place for private events, and serves as a backdrop for film and photo shoots. There's even a steakhouse located within the grounds offering the finest beef from all over the world. The tour of Casa Loma is self-guided but multimedia audio guides are available. – Tripadvisor

Visiting with no prior knowledge, and not knowing what to expect…
As my title says, I had no idea what to expect of Casa Loma, I went as it was included on the CityPASS. Apart from looking where it was in the city, I went in blind! The architecture is astounding, and is one of the most disgustingly opulent places I’ve ever seen! The history is really quite rich, and the story of the rise and fall of the owner, Henry Pallet is fascinating. I really recommend using the free audio tour app and map to be guided around and hear the history of the many rooms/features (without the guide I imagine it’d be too easy to quickly get through the building without truly appreciating it). The top of one of the towers can be accessed by a single, very narrow spiral staircase. It won’t be the easiest climb for anyone with any kind of accessibility issues. I must say as well that the view from the top of the tower wasn’t that remarkable, with views of the skyline from the islands being better. For avid walkers it’s easily reachable from the city centre, though the last section is a slog as it’s perched on a hill. For anyone with the CityPASS, it’s well worth visiting.

Ask where the audio tours devices are
Come when your brain is still fresh because there are a lot of rooms and its easy to get overwhelmed. We went on a very busy day and the crowds made the experience a little hot and a little draining. When we first came, the parking attendant said that she was surprised how busy it was so hopefully its not always like that! There are some downsides. No one told us where to get the audio tours or even mentioned them. (Maybe our ticket taker was new and forgot but it's kind of a big deal.) We saw people walking around with them and I scouted out the place to find them...and then spent the rest of the visit explaining to other poor souls where to find them. (In the basement). One group of 7 didn't speak much English and tried asking my son where he got his. He panicked and came to me and it was just easier to walk them through the house and down the stairs instead of trying to explain it. Also, don't bother going up to the towers. There's nothing really up there. You can't get more than one person up or down the stairs so there's a huge backup and you just waste your time.
