Light Paddle

Our party used Algonquin Outfitters for our canoe requirements. The booking process online had a mysterious fee. I sent an email to them and it was a booking fee that the third party online booker charges for that convenience. I suggest contacting Algonquin Outfitters directly to book your equipment as it is a pleasant experience and you save the booking fee. Great gear, clean, check in and out was efficient. Returning the gear was seamless (maybe putting the steps on a sign outside might help, but not needed). Friendly faces greeted us at the start and at the end of our paddle.

Amazing Service from Lake Opeongo Outfitters
In Lake Opeongo you can't reserve a specific camping site but paddle around the lake and camp in any site that is available. This time our group of 4 adults and 2 children paddled for about 2.5 hours until we reached the end of the South Leg and found NOTHING available! At that time it was windy and it started to rain. It was almost 6 PM and our situation was very bad so we stopped in a little island to think what to do. A few minutes later the rain stopped so we decided to go back to Outfitters, return the canoes and go home, hopefully we'd get there before they closed. We paddled back and we arrived to Outfitters at 7:30. We told the staff what happened and we wanted to return the canoes. Then they offered to go and check a spot nearby and see if it was empty. So a man took the motor boat and went there... 5 minutes later he returned and said that there was a site nearby (15-minutes paddling). They showed it to me in the map so I agreed to go there... but then I told them: "if something happens and I can't find the site, can I come back and drop the canoes in here and go home?" They said its ok so I left. ... but then a gentleman (sorry I didn't ask his name) came after me and told me to put our stuff in the motorboat, he'd carry us with the canoes and all ! And so he did, he even gave us a complimentary bag of firewood ! The campsite was great and we had a wonderful two days of camping. Thank You very Much Opeongo Outfitters !

    Helpful staff
We have used Algonquin Outfitters at Opeongo twice for renting canoes and once for a water taxi. We had great service both times. In fact on a rainy windy day that we were worried about paddling they got us on a water taxi late in the day without a reservation. The staff were super friendly and amenable as we tried to sort through our various options. The canoes have always been great. We rented sleeping pads and they were adequate and in line with our experience with other outfitters. The water taxi was nice, and the driver did seem to want to help us find a good site and checked with our paddling capabilities before dropping us off on the lake. He even helped us unload our gear which was very kind and unexpected. I have read some negative reviews and I do think you need to really be an advocate for yourself and let the employees know how experienced you are and what you are looking for. I have always had great service by just striking up a conversation and making sure to ask questions. When heading into wilderness (even rather accessible and well traversed like Opeongo) you need to make sure you are prepared and responsible for your safety.
