Great place to see nature and be involved in Tishomingo's heritage. There are plenty of outdoor sight seeing and animals to see.

Beautiful Reserve, Great Birding
Tishomingo NWR is a really scenic reserve and well worth a visit. I was there to do some birding and it didn't disappoint. The reserve features a diversity of habits that attract a variety of birds including cuckoos, warblers (incl. the beautiful prothonotary warbler), dickcissels, vultures, hawks, indigo & painted buntings, etc. It wasn't crowded at all, which was also nice. The visitor center is brand new although it was closed during my visit due to COVID. There are some picnic tables around the reserve. Overall well worth a visit!

Look For The Painted Buntings!
My wife and I traveled here in March and enjoyed this wonderful place. This NWR is located in south central Oklahoma near the town of Tishomingo. There is no entrance fee but I encourage you to purchase a current Federal Duck Stamp. Any NWR that has an entrance fee will wave the fee if you have the Duck Stamp with you. Tishomingo NWR was established to benefit migratory wildfowl in the Central Flyway. This is a very dry area of Oklahoma - bring water. We enjoyed the 3 hiking trails and the nice visitor/interpretation center. The refuge offers fishing, hunting and great photographic opportunities. Bring your family (including children), water, binoculars, camera and enjoy what this part of Oklahoma has to offer.
